Our Construction Law Services
At Altion Law, we’re specialist construction solicitors. Yet, we’re also realists. We’ll never claim to be the only act in town. There are other professional advisers to whom you could turn. But few firms can say this:
We know exactly what it’s like to walk in your shoes.

Building is in our bones
For instance, take Anthony Galvin, the head of our construction law team. He practically grew up on site.
Going back three generations, Anthony’s family business was in construction and civil engineering. His grandfather even worked on cable jointing for the National Grid with the father of one of our clients.
Anthony remembers spending many an hour as a youngster in the back of a navy transit van, eating sandwiches out of tinfoil in freezing portacabins, digging trenches and helping move barriers around the yard, or driving hundreds of miles with an agent – back and forth along the M4, and up and down the M6.
Like Anthony, our team of specialist construction lawyers all understand the pressures you face. And we’re used to giving you advice on the move.

Commercial Construction
When you seek expert legal advice, what you don’t want is someone who sits on the fence. There’s nothing worse than an incomprehensible legal opinion that goes on for page after page and takes hours to read – and when you do finally reach the end you find you’re no further forward about what to do.
At Altion Law, we provide our clients with clear advice and we get to the point – fast.

To Our Construction Clients, We’re Trusted Advisers
New clients phone us for legal advice. Long-standing clients phone us for business and legal strategy – or just a quick chat about their options.
Whether you’re an employer, contractor, subcontractor or sub-subcontractor, you can’t run a successful business if you can’t build and nurture long-standing relationships. Our approach is the same.
The advice we give will always be in your best interests. Not ours. That’s why our clients keep coming back to us.
Expertise Isn’t In The Numbers
We have been representing construction clients for over 20 years. In that time, as you’d expect, we’ve helped clients through many adjudications – as well as arbitrations and court claims. But we don’t flaunt the figures. Here’s why:
A successful adjudication is often an avoided adjudication.
It’s not unusual for clients to come to us having been told their case can’t be settled. The easy option, in those circumstances, would be to rush them through adjudication. But we often find one firm’s impossible is our firm’s possible.
There are other ways to do things. And finding ways to reach an amicable settlement has saved our clients a lot of money.

Residential Construction
Grand Designs. Love It or List It. Or any other large-scale project build TV show. There’s one thing they never show you: the homeowners getting into a dispute with their builder. If they did, the chances are the homeowners would be in for a surprise.
They might discover, as many of our clients have to their horror, that they had signed up to a statutory regime intended to govern contracts between construction companies and their subcontractors. That, in effect, they had contracted out of the Consumer Rights Act.
If this has happened to you, you’re in the right place.
We Help Homeowners With Complex Construction Disputes
If your builders are threatening to take you to adjudication, it’s important you seek expert advice.
Construction is a highly specialist area of the law. It has its own statutory regulations. Its own payment provisions. Its own specific tax regime. It’s not an area of practice a lawyer can expect to dabble in, doing the odd case here and there.
Your builders will know the mechanics of adjudication inside out. We can get you up to speed and steer you through the process.
Case Study: “Cool As A Cucumber In The Face Of Difficult Situations”
Our clients, Mr and Mrs Taylor (not their real names), embarked on a substantial project to renovate their home. What they didn’t realise, however, is they had signed up to a specialist industry contract.
Their architect had told them to sign it. And they had wrongly assumed he would be able to advise them as the project progressed. Understandably, Mr and Mrs Taylor were all at sea when it came to navigating the statutory payment regime.
We supported them through the adjudication process and succeeded in resolving the payment dispute. This paved the way for the work to be completed on their project.
“In the face of some very difficult situations, Anthony was cool as a cucumber.”
