How do I Apply for a WOWGR?
If you are not familiar with a WOWGR, this is a licence that allows you to hold goods in duty suspension in a Bonded Warehouse. It is pronounced WO-GER as opposed to WOW-GER. The process can be complicated and we often get asked how do I apply for a WOWGR?
HMRC have now updated the initial WOWGR application process so it can now be made online as opposed to having to complete a form and post it. The manual form is still an option but if you have a Government Gateway account you can apply online.
In Order to Apply you will Need:
- A Business Plan, including evidence of a commercial need for a WOWGR
- Details of trading partners and due diligence on these partners
- Types of products that will be traded
- Clear evidence on who will be undertaking the movements
- Cash flows
- Published Accounts
- Profit and losses
HMRC will visit you at your place of business and it will be a detailed interview.
WOWGRs can also be granted with conditions. If you want to have any of these amended or removed, you will need to discuss this with HMRC. They will require appropriate evidence to support your proposed changes.
